The “call your shot” thread

Here’s the rules - you post what you think you’re going to catch before your trip. After your trip, edit your post to append the results. Edit original post rather than post a reply so everyone’s prediction and results stay together.

Gold tier: correctly guess all the different species, total number of fish caught, and length (or weight if you prefer) of best fish caught.

Silver tier: correctly guess all species caught (pretty easy if you’re only after one species, but hey it’s a pretty stupid game).

Bronze tier: catch any of your predicted species

Honorable mention: catch a fish

Black and white tier: you my friend have been skunked.

I’ll start. I have Thursday off and am hitting two Puget sound beaches and then a warmwater focused lake.

2 cutthroat
1 blackmouth
2 largemouth bass
2 crappie
3 bluegill

Best fish 14 inches.

Report
Remember kids, never call your shot. It was a hard and not very successful day of fishing.

Puget Sound, the briny harlot, treated me poorly. Some solid cutthroat grabs but none stuck. I did catch one blackmouth, but it was under the age of photographic consent (5 inches) - you’ll just have to trust me.

The lake wasn’t much better most of the day. A couple yellow perch, and lots of splashes at my gurgler from fish too small to ingest it. I did catch one tiny LMB on my dropper.

Toward quitting time I got frustrated and threw on a big hideous rabbit strip. I should have started with that thing, because I finally got my one decent fish of the day. Not a huge bigmouth but solid and a great time on a 6 wt.

Final outcome - I actually nailed my blackmouth and largemouth counts, 1 and 2 respectively. All else I failed, but I got two wet sock yellow perch at least. Bronze tier for me - beats black and white!

oh man....

fuck off (I mean that in the best of terms).

Do you know what I fish for? trying to predict that would be a serious lightning strike of bad omen. When I least expect it, that's when my shit happens. :ROFLMAO:

naw, it's all good, I'm sure someone will get on that coveted medal stand, but it probably won't be me.

1. tiger musky
2. tiger musky
3. tiger musky
4. tiger musky
5. largemouth bass
6. gigantic pikeminnow

That's for Sunday

I leave June 16th for the Katmai Peninsula...

craploads of rainbows
a couple grayling
a couple mackinaws
1 pike
a couple sockeyes by mistake
a chum or two by mistake as well

My largest rainbow to date on these annual trips is 26"...looking for the 27"er this time...(attainable goals)...

Shot call update posted in my original post above. Riveting stuff.

Oh man, I'm probably locked into the bottom level....honorable mention would be super cool though...

Yeah this whole thing has bad idea written all over it. I’ll probably keep doing it because am stupid.

so are mine!

All in all, @NRC I actually kinda like the idea...but mostly in a sadistic, laughing at myself, type of way....
Exactly! Also forces me to post a report when results aren’t so good. Wouldn’t want people to get the wrong idea about how successful I am

I’ll play.

I’m dropping my kid off at preschool in 30 and then finally taking out my Commander for the first time in the big W. I didn’t have enough time to get my garmin set up but it’s more about just getting used to getting around on the boat: rowing, casting from it, etc.

Given all of the above, plus it’s a bit cold and grey I’m calling shot at exactly ZERO smallies. I believe in my self. I can do this.

So can I predict that I will get completely skunked, and qualify for both the gold and black and white tiers? Go steelheading in Washington, be a winner! 😉

I'm going to Uwajimaya:

1 aha fillet
1 lb copper river salmon
1 block of sushi grade salmon
1 lb jumbo shrimp
maybe some lobster for lobster rolls...

It will be tough, but I think I can do it! Will they look at me funny if I walk in with my 6wt strung up? I'll probably just wear my wading sandals.. and my best fishing shirt!

Cheers!

If I could get a couple yesterday morning, you can at least get 10!

I was going to add to this, but you all know I'm to god damn old to get out and fish. I Cutthroat or 2, maybe a Brown also. But this is only a fish tale. It's just not my kind of weather. The sun isn't shinning and it's not warm yet, but it's getting brighter outside. Oh hell, I tried.

The highly coveted Golden Skunk award is yours for the taking.
