I've fished Mexican Yucatan a few times for juvenile tarpon in mid-May to June. Fishing was very good. You want to go there during the warm months (May - September), but beware of storm season hurricanes that fire up August to October.
Bring a raincoat, an accurate double haul, 8 & 9 weight rods/fly lines, and smaller tarpon flies in sizes 1 and 1/0. EP baitfish patterns and small buoyant shrimp patterns work very well.

I'll be talking to Yellowdog next week.
I'm hoping to put together a more "ala cart" visit.
I've read some places will provide discounts during Aug-Oct but not refundable.
Cant blame them.

Tarpon Caye Lodge in Rio Lagartos fits your description. Family friendly activities and flexible fishing. The hotel and food are terrific. The town only hosts small numbers of tourists who are bused in for a few hours at a time to see the flamingos, then gone. Kind Mayan people make the place really special.

What lines did you favor? intermediates as well?
Are you referring to "gurgler" type flies. Got a photo to share?

Campeche makes a great base
Great town with a great market
Tarpon town guides out of the marina
I broke a rod in the mangroves as it’s like fighting in a closet
Wasn’t a pure fishing trip just two days but it was super fun
Action all day
Way more fun with the baby tarpon than the grandes
10 kilo fish were great
Also great Mayan sights close by
Food was excellent
There is a great light and video show at the zocalo on weekends
I want to go!

9 wt redfish floating line was my favorite for the fast 8 wt rod
Big deceivers in white and yellow were the flies that my guide liked
Tried a diy day but almost got the rental stuck n an attempt to reach grounds

The Scientific Anglers Grand Slam series of floating fly lines are my favorite for juvenile tarpon. The perfect taper for a fast and accurate presentation.

EP baitfish patterns (sizes 1 and 1/0), small shrimp pattern (left) designed to suspend above the mossy bottom by tying in pieces of foam, and a weighted Clouser in case a school of feeding jack Crevalle are encountered on deeper water.

Sounds perfect, except the broken rod.
Do you recall who was the guide or service you used?

Thanks for sharing the photos. I like the simple stuff as you show.
