Swimmers itch

1972 Memorial Day weekend… yeah, it’s that memorable.
A couple of my friends and I hiked in with full packs to one of the basin lakes to fish on 100+ degree day. The fishing was bad but the swimming in that cool, seductive desert water was just too tempting. We paid the price for that with “the itch”. So bad for one of my buddies that he was almost unable to make it to our HS graduation the following week :ROFLMAO:

Scrub bare skin with a clean wet towel and/or shower as soon as you get out, and you should be able to avoid swimmers itch.
Grew up with it in the many lakes we played in as kids in MN
This is where I went wrong. Spent about 5-6 hrs in the tube, then 45" BSing with the other fly fishers at the launch, then came home and mowed the lawn. Then cleaned up. Still got some spots but the itching is gone.

I feel for you. I've been back in waders recently.
Yeah, I had fished all day in the pontoon wearing waders and put the boat in the truck and noticed a hatch
of little black caddis. Put the rod back together and waded out a ways, caught a dozen or so 6 to 8 inch
Brooks and called it day. Showered when I got home, woke up in the morning to a progressive rash. Dr.
called it a “ water borne antigen “.
I was younger then, it won’t happen again.

I'm knocking on wood (thumped my skull just now) - I wet wad all summer long in the big lake up north. I do, however, wear full length quick dry pants, which may help (or maybe the big lake isn't such a host for water borne atigens. There's another carp water body that I'd never ever (NEVER EVER) wet wade. It's a drain for agricultural runoff; I can't imagine that this murky, green, foul smelling warm water is good for bare skin contact (0ne might seriously ask wth am I fishing it for?). Hip boots to get my pram launched even in hot weather.
