When we first moved here about three years ago I fished Swamp Lake in the early spring which produced lots of small but willing brook trout. This lake is the closest “high elevation“ lake to me so I thought it would be worth checking out this time of year to see if those fish had grown any. It‘s a very small lake (12 acres) perfect for a float tube and has a two fish limit and artificial fly/lure restriction so I was hopeful. The lake shows no recent stocking history and is deep enough to not winter kill, so these fish should be growing and reproducing. It was both rewarding and disappointing. The fishing was fast and furious, but the size wasn’t much bigger than I had experienced a few years ago in the spring. Still a fun trip in a beautiful setting. Not to mention, I just love brookies, they are such a feisty and beautiful fish.
