Yesterday morning I got to the launch before anyone else - sitting in the middle of the gravel launch and parking area is this huge straw hat (almost a sombrero). Someone had driven over the hat damaging the crown. Before lining up on the launch, I got out, looked at the hat and moved it to a concrete post and "tied it" down. The hat had a WSU cougar emblem on crown; the bottom of the rim was covered with WSU emblems like "Go Cougs", "Cougs Rock"..... all that Cougar hype.

A couple hours later I see this boat crossing the lake towards me and recognize "the hat". I got to chuckling about it thinking "here's comes a Coug". As the guy got near I said "I recognize that hat". The guy responds, somewhat indignantly asking if I was the one that drove over it. After making peace he told me that the wind had blown his hat our of his van at 9:30 PM the night before. I made some comment about late night fishing and asked if he'd left the lot alone (he had).

I BLEW IT! Here was the absolute perfect opportunity for me to tell the guy "Hey Coug, you Couged your own hat" (as only a WSU Coug could do and then blame it on an Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owl).

The fishing was pretty good.

Those WSU sombreros are sweet hats. You definitely blew it - you could have asked him where he got it and then be one of the cool kids!

I tried to wear that hat last fall for marlin fishing in Mexico, but it kept getting blown off while chasing the bait balls.

"asking if I was the one that drove over it"
That's his 1st question? Wow. I would've said yes after that. 😁

Most of the Cougs I know are nice. But he must be one of those "Coug Dad" sticker dudes that tailgate me on HWY18 in their $80k Tahoe.

Glad fishing was good!
