I've only lawn cast this once at the park and fished on the river for
about 30 minutes. Selling because I'm going a different direction for a six
weight (a shorter 7' rod).

Built by Shane, but he didn't mark it with Steffen on the blank. If you
have any questions, I can always show you my invoice/order confirmation
from when I bought it in October of 2023.

$425 to your door,

Let me know if you have any questions.

What?

One of the best trout rods ever. Mine is nearly 20 years old and shows it. If anyone fishes the Deschutes or Yak a lot, you'd be crazy not to take a serious look at this!

I've come to the realization that if I'm fishing glass, I prefer e glass (at least 6wt and under)

@mcswny,

May I ask what is "e glass". Sorry I couldnt figure out how to quote your above post.

Thank you.

Bob
Hey Bob, I don’t know the true technicalities between the top, but generally e glass is going to be slower and s glass is going to be faster (more modern glass). It has to do with s glass can be rolled thinner whereas e glass is a bit thicker. the e glass has a bit more heft, which translates to a bit more feel, and loads a bit deeper.

But to be clear, one is definitely not better than the other. It’s just a preference thing.

I don’t have a dog in this hunt, but I am familiar with this rod, and with Graywolf built rods. Shane builds a fantastic rod, I have 3 and wouldn’t hesitate at another. And, this particular rod is so well regarded among fiberglass enthusiasts that it has a near cult following. No joke. If you’re interested, just grab it while you can.

I have this rod, bought the blank and and built it myself. What line do you use with it? I have been using a Rio Gold 5 wt, using it as my indicator rod. I love this rod. Just wondering how it works with a 6 wt line.

I only fished it once, and lawn cast it once. I fished it with a 6wt airflo streamer max short and it felt like a little to much for it. I also lawn cast a popper with an SA MPX and that felt great.

@clarkman may have more opnions on his, since I'm pretty sure it has a spot in his bed ;)

I've settled on a Peach WF6, not going to look any further. I've tried a bunch. I felt a 5 didn't let the rod do the work, a clearwater 5 (5.5) was nice. I think this rod taper shoots line well, even with open loops, so I like it with WF's. DT's were fine, but the way the rod works I don't think there is much need to carry a bunch of line, at least the way I fish with it.

Agree with Tom, I like it with a standard 6wt. Don't like shooting heads on it (I love fishing overweighted shooting heads on my other Steffens). I could see someone liking a 5 or 5.5wt line on it as well depending on their preferences (or someone coming directly from the graphite world).

I think Rio Golds are good lines, but they’re slightly heavy and I thought it slowed the 5/6 down. More than I like anyway. IMO a straight 6 is about as heavy as I’d go, or a half-heavy 5. At that time I was searching for a bit more aggressive 6wt. Much as I liked it, I traded it.
