Stave River, BC below Ruskin Dam

Fished on the Stave below the Ruskin dam a couple weeks ago. Close to where the stave empties into the Fraser. Targeting cutthroat that might be chasing salmon fry.

No cutties but did catch a 10-12” bull trout, and 10” whitefish.

Hoping to get back out there in another week or so!

I’m still pretty new to “swinging” flies so when the bull trout hit the fly it was REAL different than the feeling of the whitefish. The whitefish kind of felt like they were pecking at it but never really getting hooked (until they were!) and when the bull hit the fly there was no question that it was on.
I said to myself ah here’s a cutthroat! Little did I know!!

That's a pretty bull. And nothing wrong with catchin whitey.
