Adhesive GPS tags launched from a police car onto your fleeing suspect vehicle. A pilot program has a 52% success rate in Washington state so far (92% nation wide). Local police departments are teaming up with the Mariners to get this number up to 54% :ROFLMAO:. If I was a thug hit with one of these GPS tags, I'd just speed off, find a busy parking lot, and attach it to somebody else's vehicle that looked like mine.

I like the idea since it's about improving safety regarding police pursuits. Some thugs will stop and remove it, but thugs generally tend to be supremely stupid (which accounts for most LE success), so I think it's definitely worth giving it a try.

My car was stolen and it wasn’t me driving the vehicle… 😉

Could be used to track fisherman and their spots...
Gonna get a few for 'off label' usage.

:)

They’re not as productive as hoped. You have to be within a few feet, and during a pursuit that gets rather cumbersome/dangerous. If they didn’t lob toss and actually shot out that’d be a win.

If it’s raining they’re also worthless 😕

I would take 50% effective if it reduces high-speed crashes, and potentially fatal wrecks. If it results in more and safer apprehensions, even better..

I've gotta dig into rcw's but I think current state law says they have to have a court order or a warrant to do that.

Not currently.

@RCF If only it could be 50% 😕. Too bad it’s not like the Fast and Furious spike thing in the movie from way back when. The air activated adhesive idea has not been working.

That's only the beginning!

Ok here's the quick google search results.

In Washington state, police generally need a warrant to use GPS tracking devices, and there are restrictions on private individuals using GPS for surveillance without consent, especially in cases of stalking. Businesses can use GPS tracking for legitimate purposes, such as fleet management, but should have clear policies and obtain employee consent, according to Expert Market.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
For Law Enforcement:
  • Warrants Required:
Washington law generally requires law enforcement officers to obtain a warrant before installing and using GPS tracking devices on vehicles or other objects, according to the ACLU of Washington.

  • Exceptions:
There may be exceptions in emergency situations or when tracking is authorized under specific laws, such as for monitoring sex offenders or gang members.
    • Warrants for GPS tracking typically have a limited duration, often 30 days, and the warrant must specify the time period or number of days the equipment can be used.

    • Reporting:
Law enforcement must report the results of the GPS tracking to the magistrate who issued the warrant.

Heres the rcw link. Reading through it, it doesn't exactly jive with what the search results say about Warrants. so, possible gray area ?

That's only the beginning!
"This is so exciting to be using data that we haven't had access to before"
"This is predictive as opposed to reflective,"

Oh yes, i am so very excited...combined with predictive AI, soon I'll be getting a ticket before I'm out of my driveway, with notice of my infraction sent directly to my insurance company in real time, along with all the data associated with my mobile devices movements, then downloaded to a database for analysis by their AI algorithm for future rate increases.

So very excited about this...

None of us have ever applied for a warrant before using it. You already have beyond a reasonable doubt for eluding, further than PC. Pursuits are also highly impactful on public safety so the courts allow the tracker w/o warrant.

@DimeBrite the grappler is awesome! Well worth the spending there.
