Split shot placement

I have been using a 2 fly indicator rig using unweighted flies. One with a glass bead and one with none. I’d like to get them to sink down into position quicker and thought a small shot would help. They are spread out about four feet from each other. Would you place the shot between them or above them.? I just run straight floro off my line no swivel . Thanks..

My experience with split shot on long leaders is not positive. In the scenario you describe, I’d try above the flies. Try short casts and water loading (flop it all back onto the water behind you then flop it all forward) to avoid creating knots or damage to your rod from contact with flying shot.

A tungsten bead on the flies you use in the future will ensure they sink without additional weight.

I have them but not on these skinny patterns. Just hate waiting sooo long for them to get down. Thanks for the advise..

Maybe consider putting the shot below the bottom fly.

IMHO, this way your leader/tippet is straight to the indo and will transfer bites quicker.

Hope this helps
I think this works well. Like a three fly rig but the point fly is a split shot. Added bonus is that if the weight hangs up on something, the split shot may slide off and let you keep the rest of your rig.

Dan @Wetswinger - how long is your leader?

When I'm in BC fishing, I use one fly (that's the law) but I often pair it with a BB split shot. I now use all flouro in my leader construction but employ a tippet ring for the tippet material. I tie a surgeon's knot in the tippet between the tippet ring and fly then crimp the split shot above the knot to keep if from sliding down the tippet.

I agree with @troutpocket on split shot with two flies and a long leader: Too often that leads to Tourette's.

Don’t have room as I’m trying to put a Bloodworm right on the deck..thanks.
Is this allowed on a catch and release lake?

Buzzy, 15/20’ leader.
This idea should work as I don’t use a bobber just an inline indicator and should be able to cast it all…thanks..

Phil Rowley/Brian Chan, use a gold, Barrel Swivel or two, in line, between flies, on I believe, both a Naked Leader and an Indicator setup. At least that's the way I understand it. As such, Ive done this, for both methods and it works. Bonus, a gold barrel swivel, I think, at times, can attract the interest of the fish. Silver Barrel Swivels would probably work as well. I just use the Gold Colored Eagle Claw Barrel Swivels. The swivels come in various sizes.

Have fun.

I prefer to use weighted flies and sinking lines rather than split shot. Rational: waiting a bit longer for it to sink is better than the cost for repair or time without a favorite rod....

Call me weird but a minute here and there and cost of repair is not what I want to experience again.

I share @troutpocket 's experience. I hate split shot.
I know what you mean by "skinny" patterns, but you could still tie those with very small beads.
If you would rather not tie new flies, could you possibly add a twist or two of lead wire to the flies? Or copper? I literally robbed some copper wire off one fly and just wrapped it on another fly. It caught me 3 or 4 fish before the wire came off. 😁
