Some canyon time, not that one, but a different one.

You've seen this report before. At least 4 times, but I'm ok with that, are you?

This past weekend my wife, kid and two friends headed out for an excruciatingly difficult 1.5 mile hike into a lesser known desert canyon for some fishin' and just some good clean fun.

We got in Saturday morning and all things considered the weather was perfect--70 and overcast. Got down, set up camp and had to force my kid to wait setting up her rod until we finished setting up.

As for myself and my buddy, we both had ~7' 3wt glass rods which are ideal for this size creek (the green rod is the rod I build over the winter for my friend who took care of me in the hospital for a week a few years ago). With that being said, it does run into a major river and I have caught fish up to 16" here which is a wild ride on a glass 3wt.

All in, the fishing wasn't red hot, but we did get into a handful, two of which were hot 12" fish. Which again took me for a ride through the fast riffle above. No net, so fish pics were tough, but use your imagination.

It was a great weekend that ended with a late lunch of pizza in town plus a peanut butter chocolate milkshake for the road.
