I'm offering my beautiful looking and beautiful casting Leonard 50. This appears to be a pre-1964 rod and casts a four weight in my hand. 8' 3/2 rod with 16/10 ferrules and weighs 4.0 oz on my scale. The lighter Leonard 50's that cast a four weight are occasionally found but seem relatively hard to find. Most Leonard 50's and 50DF's are either a five or six weight rod. This one is a pure pleasure to cast.
This rod came to me as a one-tip rod, restored that way in 2015 by Ted Simroe who replaced the cork grip, re-wrapped with new guides and new varnish, and a new nickel silver winding check. I had a second, matching tip made by a talented local rod maker from Spokane, WA. Comparing the two tips: the wraps, cane tone and varnish are a very good match. My one note is that the last two guide placements are just a tad out of mirror alignment with the original tip when viewed closely. Both tips cast the same.
All four rod pieces are straight and the ferrules "pop" and are secure.
The original, very faded hang tag was barely attached to the original rod sock but soon detached. I slipped it into a plastic slip cover and taped it to the rod tube. The tube appears original as well.
I'm letting this one go as I'm both reducing my small collection and I have not fished this rod, preferring my longer and heavier rods for most of my fishing. Thanks for looking. Ron
