Non-Fly Slip Bobbers & Spin Reels

I have an ultra light rod that I’ve successfully used for river bobbering, with heavy nymphs and streamers. I’d like to take it to the lake now. How does one use a slip bobber, with a spinning reel, at depths of 15ft or more? Can the little rubber bobber stops pass through the eyes of the rod and wind onto the reel?

No they won’t, I mean they might once or twice but then they’ll hang up once or twice and your setup will come right back at you 😁 Use a thread style bobber stop and very small beads to not pass the stop. You can also make your own thread style bobber stop, it’s just a nail knot on a straw.

I'm with the others, no rubber stops for that depth, especially on the ultralight rod. If you're like me you have a partial spool of bright backing you restock from for your tightline fishing sighters that will work for this. The straw idea is great, I use recycled tubes that came from purchased stops.

I have found that when i double up on the rubber bobber stops on your main i get less slippage river fishing.
