Slip Bobber Leader

I have a bit more of a scientific approach all proportioned to the exact depth of the water. Something thicker down a ways til it’s kinda deep at least in the ball park, then a swivel followed by thinner line down a bit more to a knot with dropper fly. Finally thin line to the bottom fly. Hook on my depth sounder weight and test the depth.
Honest that’s about what I do.

My method starts with meticulously planning on how long of a leader I need based on where I'm going, and then tying that all up at home while watching college basketball, or tennis, or whatever. Then when I get to the lake, I find out my leader is too short, and it is such a hassle to cut everything off and lengthen it, so I just fish with it unsuccessfully. After moving to shallower water and hooking up on a weed, I've broken off my flies, usually a knot just comes undone, and so then I lengthen my leader. By that time the fish have moved into shallower water to feed as I'm off to the deepest parts of the lake. I've also had 5 major tangles, 10 if it's windy and have spent countless time trying to untangle the flies, because I would rather untangle than cut and retie for some reason. I finally get a nice takedown, but I'm messing with my other rod, I reach over and give the indicator rod a "Billy Bob Bass Hookset" and break off everything below 3 feet. So now, I'm on the lake in my float tube and starting over again. Then I just put on 10 feet of 8 pound flouro and call it good, and focus on my sinking line rod the rest of the day.

I use SeegercatorLeaderβ„’ formulas for my deep water indicator fishing; they're Shawn's leader recipes and work really well.

I use a drill motor and bit to ream out my Seegercatorβ„’ pegs (I will try to remember to look at my drill index so I can remember the drill size). I simply hold the peg with a pair of pliers and slowly rotate the drill bit while pushing it through the peg. I clean the bit halfway through. Works every time.

Thread drift: Peg facing the fly or peg facing the fly line? Huh?!
Oh man... here we go on thread drift... I am a "bottom pegger" (i.e. peg goes into the indicator on the fly side) ... I know @Irafly and I disagree on this...

That being said, I can see the movement in the indicator, I can see the shift in the line, and I believe it provides a better "opposite and equal force" between the fish going one direction and my rod tip the other direction. This provides a positive set and reduces the chance of the peg not popping loose.

But what do I know, just an opinion

And since @Buzzy called me out... here is my formula... again just my opinion, not trying to establish an institution
