Single Spey Traditional or Improved style

So much confusing BS around spey casting, everyone wants to reinvent (or rename) the wheel.

Simon helped me refine my single spey probably about 25 years ago, and he emphasized NOT dipping the rod and getting a flat landing under tension to keep a tight loop by only lifting the rod as high as necessary.

Funny too, there are others who have taught to shift the lower hand position more downstream (pointing the tip across or upstream) before beginning the single spey. Same as what Topher is suggesting, just a different way of describing it.

I tend to use the traditional lift with longer belly lines and the improved version with shorter heads - Skagit and Scandi. That's just what works for me.
