Not going away but riding the environmental bandwagon ... Not sure if it will be as good as the original version...

Patagonia currently uses multiple non PFAS waterproofing technologies in it's lineup, and eVent BIO and alpineST fabrics are entering the lineup of upper end outdoor gear with waterproof ratings of 25,000 to 30,000 (Gore-Tex rated at 28,000 when new).
With waterproofing being such a huge global market, the US military alone spending 1.5B annually on military clothing with much of it for extreme weather, market forces will make sure there are fully equivalent replacement technologies.
As to Simms being sold, just business as usual in the corporate world of buy 'em and sell 'em.

What’s interesting is that Patagonia is getting heavy into the ePE technology with most of their outdoor gear except their waders….. hmmmm
if there's any company that I'd bet on coming up with a next gen in waders, it'd be them

I remember the original neoprene waders that were unlined. You had sit on the ground and roll them on.
Not very convenient so they were quickly replaced with lined models ... but even then they were not nearly as easy to put on as is breathables with a zipper. My wife and I still have neoprenes but I have no idea why. We haven't worn them in decades.
