Saint Croix River Fall fatty. This was one of the hardest fighting fish I've ever hooked. My buddy who was on the oars handed me a Murdich minnow he tied up and a few minutes later got this monster. I grew up fishing smallies on the Delaware, Schuylkill, and Susquehanna but never crossed paths with one like this.

Yes. Put in at Taylors Falls.

Found these two out in the open water this morning. You could see the bass giving chase while smaller fish fed on a midge hatch. Both struck within a foot or two of the surface in glassy water/bright sun. #6 BHWB

Lily pads at the mouth of a stream. Right off the bat usually means a stellar outing or a complete dud is in store. Today was the latter.

Found a couple hanging on the first dropoff outside a weedy point. Slow retrieve right along the bottom.

Brisk mornings have dropped the water to around 50, and today began with heavy fog. No crossing the lake, but then there wasn't much need for it. 2 good hours pitching the pads and raised pond lilies produced a good number of strikes, all on black. Patient strip setting paid off - below are two of the better ones.
