In looking for next euro/nymphing rod I decided to contact Devin Olsen at Tactical Fly Fisher. I’ve watched a few of his vids over the years, but never really went all in. Well, I gotta say, I’m very impressed with his approach. I’ve been consuming all his vids I can. So much great info presented in a way that talks to me.

Based on my fishing style, and locations, I ended up purchasing the Echo Shadow X from Devin. I feel very confident that it’s going to be a huge upgrade for me. The swing weight, and tip recovery are very good. The 11ft length will give me the reach on bigger water.

I’ve been fly fishing for over 30 years. I’ve come across lots of people in the industry in that time. Devin is definitely one to listen to. He’s just a total fly junkie who figures out the things we have questions about. I know a good percentage of you already know all this. My point is, if you looking for your next rod, hit up Devin.
 
The video series that Devin Olsen and Lance Egan did together is amazing. I would go as far as saying it is mandatory for anyone getting into euro nymphing. I recommend the final video, Adaptive Fly Fishing, for anyone that owns a fly rod. Seeing experts pick apart a river and explain every step is eye opening, even if you’ve been fly fishing for 20 years.

It’s been good for me to re-evaluate my system. I fish a lot of big, heavy water….but not always. I think I have a big, heavy mentality, that takes away from my finesse approach. I’m having a nymphing reset if you will. But that’s the beauty of it. We constantly learn, re-learn, and are humbled by this sport. It’s why I fell in love with it so many years ago.
