NFR Seahawks 2022 - Official Thread

Non-fishing related
The seahawks have a history of signing people with off field issues. Jarran Reed was actually convicted of assaulting a woman - remember he missed 6 games to start 2020. They signed Aldon Smith last year who was previously convicted of domestic violence. Quinton Dunbar was in the middle of legal troubles during the year they acquired him (armed robbery). If they sign Watson it's more of the same. Not saying I like it - I don't. I think it's pretty gross way to operate a business that is putting role models out on the field.
Yep, point well taken, and I for one certainly haven’t been pristine about who I choose to watch or not watch given their off-the-field history. Something about the serial nature of the claims against Watson makes me feel like drawing a line in the sand, though, even if it’s a little hypocritical.

Athletes aren't role models....they're 22-35 year old men playing games for millions of dollars.

Entertainers.... ?
Probably so

Role models...hardly.
Jim Abott
JJ Watt
Walter Payton
Jackie Robinson
Cal Ripken Jr
Pat Tillman
Roberto Clemente

These are role models. They exhibit characteristics I want my kids to emulate.

If athletes are role models.....the kids need a better dad.
See above. My view: it's my job as a parent to explain which athletes my kids look up to (because kids are going to look up to successful athletes) are good and why, and visa versa.

Agreed.

I'm a fantastic father (or so my coffee cup says). But no matter how good of a father I am can not prevent my kid from looking up to athletes (or anyone for that matter). Hopefully I can also do as @Long_Rod_Silvers and maybe help explain or put into context what some athletes are doing (or not for that matter).

I'd add Larry Fitzjerald on to that as well.

I too am in the Minshew camp! And I know this might not be popular, but I wish we would also give Kaepernick a chance as back up. Twitter showed him throwing to Tyler Lockett today after Lockett offered to help him practice, which i thought was cool.

Whatever happens I’m looking more forward to this coming season than i was last season. Still sad about Bobby Wagner, but happy about Dissly and Diggs.

Whatever QB they roll with this year is just going to be a stopgap measure, so I'm all for something that keeps it interesting an entertaining. Watson is far and away the best available, an upgrade from Wilson even... but for so many reasons, it's the wrong move. Roll with Lock, Minshew, Kaep, or someone like that to manage the game. In all honesty, I don't see any of those as much of a step back from what Russ was the last two years (save for a few standout games).

Love would be an interesting option to build around. Can't imagine GB holding on to him for 4 more years under Rodgers.

There’s about 3100 players if you look at MLB, NFL, and NBA.
8 out of 3100 ain’t so bad I guess
My sons hockey coach won an olympic bronze medal. She is an athlete, and she's one hell of a role model.
My daughters gymnastics coach was a collegiate gymnast. She is an athlete, and one hell of a role model.

I don't think it's a fair statement to say athletes aren't role models. I think it's a fair statement to say that there are a lot of crappy role models in the 3 major sports.

Sometimes we just aren’t looking in right direction

Anyone can be a role model. The single dad who volunteers to be a little league coach. The old widow down the road who volunteers at her church. The neighbor who helps the struggling family by picking up or taking their kid to youth sports, or band practice, just because he knows every little bit of help that family can get makes a difference.
Athletes can be, but often aren't.
It's up to them.

and I thought Diggs, who's a key player, was an over-pay.
srsly....especially when you factor in, who the hell is gonna throw Dissly the ball? Anyone? Bueller?

Diggs, I can see only because of Pete's hill he's going to die on. D-Fence. and the fact that he gave 2 #1 picks for his other safety who sucks in coverage....

Minshew mania can begin....
