Yeah, that's what you call it when you get skunked!
So yes, I got skunked on my carp outing.
I saw some fish, but only had about 6 legit shots. I spooked half them. I missed the eat on 2 or they didn't eat. And hooked 1, but lost it 5 seconds later. Bummer.
The good news is now I know, for myself, that I won't fish that place in October, even in a year that hasn't seen any cold nights so far.
And, I found some great spots that I will come back to in the summer. And spots my wife will like to enjoy lake life while also quenching my carp pangs.
The camping was good, the boat ran flawless and the weather was outstanding. And I got to meet the one & only @Buzzy at his lovely house! With a really nice, freshly poured, concrete driveway. Great meeting you Pat!
So the only thing I caught, besides some great intel, were a few pics from my phone that I think didn't turn out half bad.

I hit a trout spot for an hour or so that everyone has probably been to at one time or another. I stopped going there years ago since it seemed too much like fishing in someone's aquarium. It actually felt good to cast a long line and think back on the good times I have had here though.
Of course, I just had carp & bass gear on me. The lightest tippet I had was 2x.
Luckily, carp eat damsel nymphs so I had a few of those. So I tied on a long 2x tippet and a #10 damsel nymph on the 8wt and gave it a shot. Much to my surprise I got this chunky 13" guy at 4 in the afternoon.
I then hooked and lost a fish pushing 20" in the weeds. Bent the hell out of the 8wt actually. Got me going a bit! If I would've had 3 or 4x I probably would've hooked a few more. They would charge out of the weeds to attack, but then refuse at the last second. Guessing it was the 2x tippet. Haha! I forgot they get pretty bold here in October. Definitely more action than I expected chucking 2x.
There will now be 3, 4 & 5x tippet and some trout flies in the truck for EVERY trip.
So I guess I didn't get completely skunked.
Carp will have to wait until next year!
