Scott GS 84/3?

For a 3wt, non fast rod action, I'd be looking at a glass rod. Shit, I'd be looking at glass rod regardless.
With that being said, the sweet spot for 3wt glass is in the 7'-8' range, but I do think Larry Kenney has a pretty legendary 8'1"3wt 3pc (although, his 733 definitely is the top of the top). Steffen has a bit longer 3/4s but my guess is they'd peform better at the higher line rating.
Many people rave about the Redington Classic Trout. Med. action and inexpensive. Big following around here..

Not trying to steer this thread in the wrong direction but I’m really curious what makes 7’-8’ the sweet spot for 3 wt glass.

My friend has one and I've used it for a bit. I was seriously underwhelmed. Reminded me of the early TFOs. Claim to be a medium-fast, but you needed to have 30-40 ft of line out before they even started to have feeling.
I don't think I could give you a correct technical answer. I'm mostly saying that because if you look at all of the modern glass makers offerings, the 3wts tend to fit in that range.
C Barclay: The 68 is 6' 8" 3wt (this is my 3wt)
Ijuin: Yomogi and Sakura tapers are both 7' 3wt
L Kenney: It isn't named but one of his most revered rods is 7' 3" 3wt
Steffen: The 2/3 has 6' 6", 7' and 7' 3"
Mcfarland: In the Spruce Creek there's 7', 7' 2", 7' 6", 7' 7" and 8'.
etc. etc.
So yeah, it's more an observation based off of most 3wts being sub 8'. My GUESS is that a glass rod bigger than 8' wt is going to cast like a wet noodle. One exception is Ijuin's Perfect Beat which is an 8' 3" 3wt. But it's a carbon/glass blend and is full parabolic. That rod sounds like a absolute blast to cast now that I think about it

Thank you for the offer. From what I can read, I don't think it is the action I'm looking for. However I do have a friend in town who might be interested, I'll pass this on to him.
I have a 3 wt. Winston WT, and it feels like a 1 wt when I'm fishing it. Great rod. Also, the Winston Pure's are on sale now. I have an 8' 4wt that is a really sweet rod. There are a couple of 3 wts in the Pure lineup.

I have a 6wt G series, the 8’8 version. It is such a fun rod. Very easy to roll cast, can throw darts. Intuitive even for beginners when I’ve lent it to friends. Great hopper dropper rod. I’ve been mulling over getting a longer 3wt for dry fly fishing on spooky waters - the 3wt 8’8 G series has got my eye. I have to imagine it casts like a dream. Check out the telluride anglers model by model reviews on the G series. They call it “the once and future king of trout rods” which has a nice ring to it.

My understanding is that the 8'8" versions are a little different than the 8'4" versions, just FYI.I have a 6wt G series, the 8’8 version. It is such a fun rod. Looks like Scott discontinued the G series and released the GT series,
did you ever pick up a 3wt G series? I ended up grabbing the 883 and it's awesome. Maybe not the best small-creek-tight-brush rod but a really smooth dry fly stick. I was able to take it out for a spin this fall but I'm excited to use it next summer a bunch.

I'll second the 3 wt. Winston WT. Totally agree that it feels like a 1 wt. My absolute favorite small stream rod (and I also have a 1 wt). I also have the 8' 4 wt Pure, and it's a sweet rod, but there's not much area where I think those two rods overlap.

I ended up trying the 8'4". It definitely would have worked, but just...I just didn't really seem to take to it. So the search continues.
