Posting here since no help from from a comedian friend on the Backyard Wildlife thread. I'm assuming some kind of carnivore left this in the woods below our place.

Shows what I know about deer poop (not much.) Definitely a blacktail hangout there.

Deer make pellets, elk bigger pellets a bit bigger than milk duds, doesn't look like a predators. I'm sticking with my first comment ☺️

It looks like the blacktail poop that my local herd drops frequently in my yard. Here is an interesting article on the diversity of deep [&%&^# autocorrect. "deer"] poop from "raisins" to "clumps" like you are showing and what underlies the differences.

I'd also say deer that have likely been feeding on grass.

Cabazon with the win, definitely looks like the SOFT POOP, :poop:

Elk crap will look like that at times as well…mostly pellets but sometimes patties😀.

Doubt there any any elk within 10 miles of us. Good to know that both deer and elk can make patties.

There have been occasional reports of bear in the general area. Not really worried about Yogi though. Cougar are another matter entirely, but this doesn't look like any cat poop I've ever seen.

You sure you don't have some homeless dude living under your deck?

Um, that would be across the road from us. Dilapidated and in foreclosure. They're not causing us any problems though. In fact, I thank them for scaring everyone else off so we could buy riverfront property in our price range. If you ever come out, just be prepared for the banjos to start playing in your head when you start down our road.

banjos aren't too bad...

Predator poop will almost always have hair and bits of bone in it. On this side of the Cascades, black bear will oftentimes look like blackberry jam. Like other cats, cougars and bobcats bury theirs.

I did not know that ... or maybe I never made the connection that cat box burial was a pre-domesticaton behavior holdover. So scat isnt gonna tell me if there's a big kitty down there... great.

Good info. Thanks.

It's whats left of the huskies after the Ducks whomped em last Saturday. Sorry.......couldn't resist.

You will still often see the scat, what I have seen isn’t buried, but there is evidence of pawing dirt onto it. Most of the scat I have seen is on the dry side though. Look for tracks like a big dog with no claw imprints.
