It was a smokey but a uneventful drive up north with @troutpocket this year. @Irafly and @Yardus met us up in Barriere at the hotel and for dinner. Was great to see everyone again. This would be our third trip into the area. The next morning we stopped in Little Fort for breakfast and headed into a diner that had the door propped open. After about 15 minutes we realized that the diner we were sitting in at 9 am was still closed till 11 am
Oh well back to the gas station for coffee and a muffin and we headed up and would be fishing earlier then ever!

The main lake the lodge sits on is Rock Island and it's a gorgeous body of water and a fun lake full of fiesti fish that fight about their size class.

One back bay I met Cathy in who is one of the delighful hosts and she gave me some direction into a deeper corner I shall call Cathy's Corner.

Back and forth with a slow sink and a little dark jig worked well:

Rock Island is a numbers lake. The type of lake you can catch enough fish to forget your troubles:

Zipped back for a delightful dinner and desert prepared by James, Genie and Cathy. You don't go hungry at this fish camp.
@Yardus giving me a ride back to the corner:

For the most part the smoke wasn't too bad. It added to this sun set I'm sure:

The next day found us at a favorite bug lake after a short hike in. Didn't take long for us to find a bite that lasted all day.

Little jig chironomid under an indicator produced well:

I had a fish I called MJ that jumped straight up after hook set, my guess was over 7 feet into the air. It shook the hook and was probably the biggest fish I had on this trip. Such is life.
At about 1 pm we decided to go ahead and start keeping smoker size fish. The smoked fish are a real perk of staying at the lodge and to make it easier on the hosts we just decided to get it done in one afternoon. The extra 31 pound stringer added to the short pack out:

The next day we headed to M2 lake. This is a trophy lake that basically kicks our ass. My goal was 5 strikes. I got 4. None stuck. Skunked. Rod and Ken figured out a few bites:

They have a habit in this lake of impressive rises so that we know how big of fish exist in this challenging lake. A quick fuel up for the 45 minute hike out:

The mosquitoes were not as bad this trip. In fact I hardly noticed them. After M2 lake the next day we went to the sister lake of Rock Island. This lake is a short walk and has bigger fish.

Rod with a chunk:

Solid 19.5:

As the afternoon waned on the bite slowed down. This is several fish gorging in a daphnia cloud:

If you haven't played around with @SpawnFlyFish flash tails you should. I was able to video game this one up:

Super fun day:
