Riverstick Custom Wading Staffs

Have you gone to a new tip piece?

I have renewed appreciation for your work. Several winters steelheading, many many miles, a new tip now and then, and it’s holding up great.

Unlike the one I got from Creekside Anglers that tried to kill me on its first outing on Saturday.
Yes, I have gone to a TR413 size rubber tire valve stem. The good news is they're easily adaptable to staffs using the chair leg tips.
To install, I insert a 1" length of 3/8” I.d. rubber fuel line hose to approx 3/8"” below flush, moisten the valve stem, then, using a mallet, tap it in. It stays firmly in place (needing pliers to pull out), is very durable and, being flush with the edges of the tubing, and isn't as inclined to hang up between boulders .In fact, I don't think I could design a better tip. It's also very inexpensive, at approx $1.00 ea, and fits with my interest in keeping the staff easily self-maintainable with off-the-shelf components.

Having broken my wading staff from a major brand earlier this year, I find myself in need of something sturdier! Do you have any available at the moment?

* A note to all interested in ordering a staff:
I am awaiting a shipment of holsters from my supplier in Vancouver, BC.
I will post when I have them, hopefully, w/in a week or so...

Awesome! Can you add me to the list so I can get one when the next batch is ready?

My holsters have arrived and am clearing the backorders now....will be able to handle some new orders.
Thanks for your patience.

Thanks. What I meant was, does the grip have a groove for your thumb so that it fits better in one hand than the other?

I hold my staff in my left hand, rod in my right hand.

Thanks!
The grip is symetrical, so same fit on either side.

Do you sell the pieces to upgrade the tip piece?
For anyone on the fence about getting one of these, don’t hesitate. I use mine every time I go to the river and it is fabulous. I have even used it at hike in lakes where I am shore fishing. It works great to help wade out in places with soft or uneven lake bottoms and as a probe to not find a “surprise” drop off the hard way. 🤪

The tip is actually size TR413 tire valve stem. I insert a 1" length of 3/8" I.d. rubber fuel line hose ( reg, not marine) into the aluminum tubing, recessing it to 3/4" below flush. I then moisten the valve stem, and tap it in until it seats against the tubing. The valve stem and fuel line can be found at any auto supply store for around $2. (I get mine from NAPA). It has turned out to be the most durable rubber tip I've seen anywhere)

Well folks, looks like I'll have to pause shipping staffs to the US, as the latest tariff changes require pre-payment of approximately $85 in extra duties before being shipped.
I really appreciate the support members of the flyfishing community have shown for my staff over the past several years..in fact, in all my dealings with members, there has not been one negative interaction...not one...a fact that speaks volumes for our community here.
I will continue to enjoy participating on the site and, hopefully, resume sending staffs to my friends down south, if and when it becomes feasible again.
best regards,
Rick
