River Dee

Just Hatched
I now live in the UK. The River Dee and the flies and history have always been fascinating to me, even moreso than the River Spey. Went to Windsor castle, inside was about 20 minutes cool. Outside was fascinating. The pub was even better.

Got the “Go” for a River Dee trip. Funny… the conversation included a spey casting lesson/instruction…I’m like should I bring the 13’ or 15’3”. I only want to fish skaters/wakers. Guide/Ghillie’s response = stupid American.💥🏴‍☠️🤣 I don’t give a S+..I will swing an Akroyd but only towards the end of the second day. 🔥Ed

Had to look up what an Akroyd is, I dono that’s a pretty fly. The laissez-faire wet swing as your eyes venture to new lands might be tempting.

Add pics if you get a chance, the riverside architecture in places is intriguing.

My dad was born in England. I always wanted to go there, but I didn't want to fly there. He was born in Newcastle about 1907. His family is still there. I never met any of his kin.

Forget all that... I'm catching my first Atlantic (if I ever get to) on a Skunk my second will be on a steelhead caddis. That oughta show them lousy Scotsman... and on my flask? Kentucky bourbon.
:) suppose they shoot me if the skunk was dresses with chenille?

decades ago i got to fish a beat on the Spey. before hand i visited a tackle shop close by to look at the fly patterns. now i have saved for posterity the first flies i ever made. those flies looked much better than what was for sale in Scotland, and i can tell you my first flies are terrible!!!! fish what you have and are comfortable with, not a thing wrong with that approach. and a green butt skunk is one of my go to flies...
