FinLuver
Native Oregonian…1846
If ya knew him....ya knew him.
If ya didn't, you may have read this book..."San-Juan River - A Fly-Angler's Journal"
He was also a pretty regular fixture at the NW Fly Tying and Fishing Expo in Albany for many years.
He would tie Fulsher-style bait fish patterns...and they were great looking.
He was a Viet Nam war vet...a photojournalist at that time. Some of those LZ video clips in hostile territory were done by him.
I had the pleasure of taking him fishing to a couple of my favorite spots. He commented that I "fished too hard"...at which I replied "I only get to fish maybe 3-5 times a years...I have to put in a 'whole day'...". On one occasion, he had bought a reel that was not suited for his rod...but he could still gracefully cast a nice dry fly loop.
I noticed that he wasn't part of this year's roster of tyers at the Expo. I was thinking of him, so I searched his name on Facebook for some odd reason this morning (I don't believe Richard had a FB page) and found his (recent YouTube) service that his daughter had posted.
I will cherish the flies he had given to me and my boy, the times spent streamside and the chats, and the personal notes in my books that he authored.
