RIP David Crosby

I listened to Turn turn turn and literally brought goose pimples to my flesh.
So many memories.
Such a generational talent at the right place and the right time.
Sometimes getting old sucks.
It's like the tides, there are highs and lows. 😟

I had lost my hearing in a diving accident on Oahu about 8 years ago…100% loss left ear, 50% right ear. After several weeks of hyperbaric chamber treatments and steroid regimen, hearing did not return…I was bummed, since I love music and playing guitar. We had purchased tickets to see David Crosby & Graham Nash several months prior, and knowing how much my wife loved their music, I went anyway, even though I could barely hear a thing. Halfway through the concert my hearing just blinked back on…fully. I turned to my wife and said “you’re not going to believe this, but I can hear perfectly well”. I went back to my hearing doctor (who had already arranged for me to see a hearing specialist on the mainland) and couldn’t believe it…he had no idea why my hearing suddenly blinked off, or why months later it suddenly blinked on. He told me it was probably pressure related from diving since it happened right after a day of spear fishing, and I may have residual nerve damage from many thousands of dives, and it could happen again if I continued diving. Spear fishing was my passion, and it was a difficult decision t give it up…so i took up a new hobby…fly fishing.

Whenever I hear a Crosby or CSN/Y song, I immediately think of that concert and how my hearing came back…and how I started my love of fishing with a fly rod…

Brute, thanks for recounting your incredible experience. That is amazing! As a former diver and life-long fisherman, I can relate.

Damn, what a lucky turn you had there to get the hearing back!

Always loved this one from CSNY

And this cover of same is just awesome:

I have a friend that lives in Laurel Canyon and have spent quite a few nights up in there. It is an amazing place to be. You can walk down the hill (carefully as the cars are fast and tight!) and go to the country store at the bottom that has been there for eons. Many a musician has met fellow musicians there probably standing in line buying booze or smokes. Jim Morrison's house is just around the corner from the store.

You can truly feel the musical history in that place. My mind wanders back to the heyday with the likes of CSN and so many others creating their art there.

Worth a trip if anywhere near the area.

Thankful to have seen CSN in Buffalo with the Grateful Dead in the 90s.
Crosby's books about his life and struggles were an inspiration to me when dealing with my own.
Deja Vu has to be one of the all-time greats. Works well when working in the kitchen, around the campfire, driving down the road.....and I can't sing for shit...but I always find myself singing along.
An icon who will be missed.

Back in the early 70’s I saw CSN&Y as the headliners of the World Series of Rock at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Also on the bill was Jesse Colin Young, the Band, and Santana. It was an all day concert and still the best concert I have been to.
