refinishing bamboo

Recently picked up a bamboo rod but have been working 70-80 hour weeks and have not had a chance to fish it. In the little time I have for myself I have been digging through the stuff and found a Montague flash rod that was my grandfathers and is a rod I started refinishing years ago. Was when I was just starting to build rods and I was not great at it. I already added a new reel seat and re wrapped new guides in the place of the old guides. I think I removed the new striping guide and tip top that I added for another project at some time. Now I am thinking I would like to add more guides to the rod and try fishing it.
Question is, should I just add guides in between the existing guides, which are spaced very far apart, or should I re wrap the whole rod with new spacing. It's a 9' rod and the total number of guides currently is 7. If I remove all the guides, what is recommended for sanding old finish spots and refinishing them.
Trying to get the most bang for buck. I don't think the rod has any value other than fishing it and I really don't want to spend too much more time on it.

Just fish it

Hi Russell,
A couple of things…..first you could tape some guides in between and string it up, flex and cast it. But…I don’t think you’ll be very happy until you rewrap the entire rod. You might possibly get “ghost marks “ where the original guides were, but they just add character! I’ve redone 80+ blue collar bamboo rods and fish them 95% in lakes year round. Do what you want, it’s your rod and make your grandpa happy! Any questions I’d be glad to help.

Here is a guide spacing guide you can use. I agree with Steve, I'd remove all the guides and start with the chart's spacing.
