reel grease

I have an old pflueger medalist reel, its in great shape but I am curious what kind of grease I could rub on the parts to keep them nice and corrosion free? I accidentally dunked it while landing a fish on the yak on friday and noticed how wet the inside of the reel stayed. I would hate for it to corrode. any tips?

I've normally used Penn Reel Grease for everything. But am starting to rethink that due to reading Alan Tani's website: www.alantani.com
He's got tons of How To tips on just about every reel imaginable

for a Medalist, Quantum hotsauce.

Boshield is great stuff. I keep a can around for assorted use. But, I think Reel-X is superior for reel lubrication. Hard to find so I ordered a couple bottles from Bauer (I think), so I’m good for a while. Some of my reels are Bauer, but I’m thinking it’s just as good on other MFRs.

Keep your reel outta the grit.
I try my darndest. I'm just saying what I have read elsewhere. It is specifically quantum grease that gets poo-poo'ed. My Marquis is hot sauced, my Taupo still has the stock grease. We'll A/B it, I guess.

For a light oil, I use my bicycle chain lube (Boeshield T-9 or Prolink). I've also used various bike-specific greases for when I needed a grease. I figure if it's good at protecting bike chains, derailleurs, and bearings from weather and grit, it should be fine for reels. So far, it has been working very well.

A note from the Alan Tani site: general lube , he uses Yamaha blue lithium marine grease on almost all his rebuilds. Cals drag grease on drag washers and Penn for everything else.

I have an old tube of Penn grease and wish that I could locate another one. I had it a long time and use it on my salwater reels. It's a red coloured grease and a little dab is all you need. Good stuff.

Yeah, this shit is good at keeping corrosion at bay. It will keep your A/P rust free for many years. But LPS 3 is much better
keeping corrosion at bay. We used a ton of it on the 747 A/P Between the blankets and the skin. Here I am again. Building A/P's again

Any marine grade grease will be more than fine, just note that less is more when applying it!
Yup, for the pawls/gears/springs or the Penn Grease whatever. On the clickers I run in the salt I replace grease every couple trips and over-grease bare internals.

Thinner viscosity is needed for the spindle to keep free movement.

I only use silicone grease, for two reasons.

1. Mixing greases is usually bad, reel manufacturers rarely specify what grease was used and it is nearly impossible to fully clean out many reels. Silicone grease doesn't react with almost all greases, so it eliminates that whole problem.

2. Silicone grease is the only thing that should touch rubber parts, such as O-rings. Most greases will cause such parts to deteriorate. Thus, using silicone grease eliminates that concern.
