Redington RS4

Anyone fish one of these regularly?

Impressions on the action?

Not regularly, but test wiggled a couple. A friend has a little 7 or 7 1/2' 3 wt for panfish. The other I checked out was a typical 9' 6 wt. Stiff as a fireplace poker; I don't care for them. Apparently they do have a following however.

My 9' 6wt is my go lake/float tube rod. Typically fished with a 444 type 6 and 2 or 3 leeches or buggers. Also a beast of a river rod with a 10' type 3 sink tip (my rivers are too small, but I've got a few summer runs with it). Fishes true to weight. Powerful, but you can still feel smaller fish play. Not too stiff, easy to feel it load. Plenty enough distance in a float tube.

Huh, curious. Always thought my 9.5' 8 weight was on the softer side.

It's my only example in that model so no other comp

Had a 9' 10wt a number of years ago. Not overly stiff, not overly soft. Wish I still had it.

Reminds me of my buddy's 8 weight Winston I made a few casts on out of the skiff fishing SRC. That thing had this cool extra gear you could find when punching the cast outbound. Really liked it, really couldn't afford one

That's why I like it in the float tube, it really punches a cast when needed without collapsing and loosing the loop and line speed.

I would lean more towards that description. They had a CPS line of rods around the same time--those were significantly faster.

Never had a CPS lots of local PNW guys seemed to like them. They are like a Sage RPL but way cheaper I was hearing, but never had one of those either!

Anyways in my book as to slow to faster action it's RS4 - Sage XP -Redington CPX your mileage may vary

@chrome/22 , what are you after? did you find a deal on the RS4 and are curious? What weight are you thinking?

One thing I really liked about the 10wt I had was it's moderate-ish action but with quite a bit of backbone down low to help with both fish fighting and with casting when you really need to push it. Many of my favorite glass heavyweights are similar (just with a little slower action)....don't mind being pushed, and pushed hard yet with a super pleasurable "typical casting range" action....dunno how else to describe it, but that's similar to how I would describe that 10wt RS4 I regret getting rid of.
