Found myself at the ramp this morning next to a fine looking 14' wood skiff...turned out to be Ray Heater of Ray's Dories with the boat he built for lake fishing in the Bend area when he retired here 10 years ago...Ray (on the right) and his buddy, who has tied over 2500 flies for Wounded Warriors, are most excellent dudes to chat with and fish next to.
Fishing was slow with some nice bow's occasionally slurping a chrom IMG_20240510_095937433.jpgIMG_20240510_100058238 (2).jpgIMG_20240510_114116127 (2).jpg

Great photos! Every year, I donate flies to the Deschutes River Alliance in a nice Wheatley box. A couple of years ago, Ray won the box. He makes nice boats.

I have that same boat. He’s got an extra rub rail on this one, and the transom/knee lock configuration is a little different (vs mine with a stripping deck). He and Cy Happy retired a few years ago. David Hayes runs the shop now.
Mine’s stuck in the garage until the kids move their “home from college” crap.

Bought my driftboat from Ray in 1985 when he was working out of his garage. Found him thru an ad in Salmon Trout Steelheader. A 16 foot Rogue model, still have it today. Damn, we were both lot younger back then.
