Rafts, Campers, and Corndogs

After 14 years of playing around with boats, I think I have finally got one I plan on keeping for myself. This is a little wider than the SRBs that seemed desirable because it could fit in the back of a truck but since I have a trailer and a flatbed truck, that was not a priority for me, and I appreciate the added stability. JPW is sending me a couple of D-rings that are needed to strap the rear anchor section down (forgot to add when it was built) but once those are on, I’ll be ready to get it on the water.

I have been looking for a truck camper for a couple of years now to make overnight trips more convenient and mobile and finally got one that I think will work for me. If it’s just me, I don’t need much…a place to sleep and eat a meal or two when I’m not fishing. This thing should do that and allow me to pull a raft or jet boat trailer. Looking forward to taking this out real soon.

I estimate that I made the trip from Ellensburg to North Bend and back once a week year-round from 2011 to 2023 and I only stopped at Snoqualmie Pass two times, once to get window washer fluid in a snowstorm and last week when picking up this camper. I thought I had two full tanks when I left and just after I passed Cle Elum, I checked the extra tank and found it empty. I probably had enough diesel to get to North Bend but why chance it? I pulled in at the top (and paid $6 a gallon) and remembered this corn dog place that has been mentioned on here several times. An image of Leland eating a corndog briefly came to mind and even though I have never met him (I think we sold a raft to one of his fishing partners) I had to get one. After finding the place I made my order and ran into the adjacent store to get a beverage. I’ve only had two regrets in life so far…wasting hundreds of opportunities passing by not getting a corndog and only getting two mustard packages; it was a big dog.

Back when I was snowboarding at Alpental weekly, the number of corndogs eaten became the apres-ride measure of the day's quality. The question in our group was something like "Was it a one or two corndog morning?". Every now and there there would be the mythical three-corndog powderfest through the slack country.

...and asking for extra mustard is always the pro move. ;)

I enjoy it stuff like this.👍

I was kinda bummed tho cuz there were no pictures of the corn dog😩…..not even the corn dog palace 😉

Some family members are big into taking pictures of meals...I'm not one of them. It never occurred to me to take a picture of a corn dog but of the place, I can see how a picture might help. I drove by it twice while looking for it. Now I'm trying to find an excuse to make the drive, just as an excuse to get another one and maybe a picture or two.
