Quick Turn of the Page!

Last Thursday I took off for Oklahoma with my wife to watch my boy play football. He had a streak of bad luck with his body. He had 3 surgeries in 11 months and has been sidelined for 2 seasons. He fought his ass off to get healthy. It was so awesome to see him back out on the field doing what he loves most. He had a big night with 14 tackles…fun stuff! Now I’m back to doing what I love most!

I worked yesterday but was back at the ranch at 4:30 this morning. The program changed while I was gone. The rancher moved all of his cows to the oat field the elk had been using. There was a lone rag horn out there with all those black angus this morning…probably 100 head of cattle.

While I was slightly disappointed that my routine has been interrupted, I’ll be relieved if they go back to living in the timber. They are so much easier to hunt when they’re in there. Now I just gotta relocate them and learn their new pattern. Around 6:45 I heard a bull pipe off! Shoulder pads and bugles…the two sweetest sounds of September. I didn’t catch up to that bull today. I did get a really clean 20 yard shot opportunity on a cow but she had a calf with her. The calf is plenty big enough to be fine without her but it didn’t feel right so I just watched them pass.
