NFR Queens are out and about

Non-fishing related
I’m seeing some sluggish paper wasps in Eburg. But it’s certainly shaping up for early traps.

It's like an Oregon 20 then....

I set my trap out about a month and a half ago. Caught two queens a week or so ago. They be dead.

This business of early season trapping of queens makes August and September so much better! I only caught 2 or 3 queens last year too, but still ended up with a nest in a post on my front porch. Shad chunks (tm) took care of those pesky bastards.

Looks like run of the mill German Yellowjacket V.germanica. My dad has caught a bunch of those this spring in So. OR.

Here is what the queen looks like: 1777267626950.png

2025 was a tough yellowjacket season. Set those traps and start watching!

This guy needs lawn care tips and a queen trapping program.

Had something similar when I was a teenager working as a cemetary groundskeeper. Hit a ground wasp nest with an edging machine and got hit over 30 times before I could get to a safe space. Have to carry an epi pen ever since.

Damn things are avoiding my trap. It's the bags style that usually have em circling to get in like Ohare Airport. Grrr....!!!
