Puget Sound

Supposedly not, or at least that’s what I was told when I asked a local fish bio about it.

My guess is that the longer they are in the salt, the more they pick up. Just a theory, but when the rivers are low from drought it may mean they hang out in the salt longer waiting for the rain to open the river for them. This year, for example, I don’t recall it raining between the first week of June and last week.
And here I thought the old joke about catfish having fleas was problematic......

Well, it start to looks slightly better for my area Saturday and Sunday but not sure I have the ability or desire to cast directly into those winds. But hey, you never know!

Find a north facing beach. I know one that would fit the bill in your area …. 😉

Planned to start the morning at Victor, but the wind was absolutely howling. So I headed to a couple of beaches on Hale passage. Much calmer and the seagulls were crashing bait enmasse right off the beach.

Decent action for about an hour after low, then it turned off hard. Was going to go elsewhere but the wind and rain picked up.

Stupid storm. And to think a few weeks ago I was hoping for rain.

Headed south at 5:00 this morning. Kind of a white knuckle drive with heavy rain and standing water. Hydroplaned pretty good a couple times and saw two pretty serious looking accidents.
Started fishing at 7:30 and called it quits at 1:30. Got my ass kicked most of the day by a stiff SW wind and whitecaps.
Ended up with maybe a dozen and a half fish over six hours. It was hard with the water conditions to see where the current was. I ended up walking about three miles trying to find it. Once I found current fish came in batches with lots of time otherwise with very little action going on. A few pics from today.

You’ve been working those little anchovy flash flies pretty hard.

No anchovies around today, but I think the fish still remember them since there were so many. I’ll ride it until it runs dry…. 😉

Wow, you got into them! I ventured out Saturday morning and it started out nice and calm but then the wind really came up and made it tough. Got a couple hits but that was about it. Had to cut my trip short when the wife called to say part of a tree come down at out house.

Beautiful morning on the beach. Started out with the idea I’d hit an SRC beach then go scour the canal for some chum. The morning was so nice and the fishing so solid, I scrapped the chum idea and fished SRC all morning.

Overall, hooked 12-13 over two beaches. Landed 9 or 10. No monsters, but some quality fish.

Some of the nicer fish.

The Sound was afire with Cutts this morning, first cast at first light got a solid one immediately.

Picked up some trash, scored a folding box cutter. One has to wonder what went down here.. "hold my fireball bro, watch this knife trick"

Hit the beach this morning. Started at 7:00 and called it a day at 1:30.
Nice fog cover. 32° when I started. First day this fall that it actually felt kind of cold.

Started out using a clouser similar to what @Wanative used Friday with good success.
With less then a 4’ exchange on the outgoing, there wasn’t much water movement. I walked around until I found some and caught a fair number of fish on the clouser. I lost two jumbos that ate right at the rod tip and gave me the bird as they self released.
I also found out the bead chain eyes weren’t heavy enough to flip the fly over, but the fish didn’t seem to care. Next batch I’ll put some small lead wire between the eyes.

The tide died out and the water went mirror flat. I started seeing fish dimple, so I knew what the drill was going to be even though I try to avoid fishing small and slow whenever possible. I probably should have changed to a floater and a long leader, but I was feeling lazy so I left the intermediate on. I clipped the clouser off and tied on a orange shrimp pattern I tied a few days ago.
Things weren’t fast and furious, but a decent number of fish were caught.

Question for @Cabezon and any others.
Has anyone ever seen a clear Argulid?
Most the ones I see aren’t really big and are on the upper portions of the fishes body with a green or brown color.
This one was on the white belly right behind the gill V. It also is larger then others I’ve seen. Would the color be a type of camouflage based on where it was located on the body?
Thanks for any input you can provide.

Hi SF,
Hmmm, I have never seen one that clear before. But I did find this pdf in which you can see some clearish individuals (though not as clear the one in your hand) from a light area in the body of a koi in Figure 4. I suspect that their pigmentation can change as they attempt to match the pigmentation of the fish.
