I was up a ways above them but they looked like herring to me. Could also possibly be anchovies.

Slow MA 9 opener for me. Lots of bait, just not a lot of decent size fish.
My voluntary trip report will read multiple sub 16” coho and one sub 6’ human male.

3 beaches, two good takes. No fish seen caught from bank. Only a couple jumping. Too bad closed next week, tides look nice.

Today seemed as good as any to join the forum. Fished the opener for the first time and this will be my 4th season beach fishing.

Landed a 2-3ish pound coho first thing which was unclipped and then lost track of how many 12”ers I went through before calling it a day.

Fished 7-11:30 tons of bait, had probably 20 bites mostly consistenting of 8” salmon nipping tail of my clouser. Landed two 12” coho. Only saw two keeper sized coho hit the beach

I fished MA9 6:00-11:00 this morning. Lots of 10-12" rezzies and bait around. I landed one unclipped coho about 1.5 lbs. I didn't see many keeper size fish landed on the beach or the boats.

Bubble was white capping but we did it. Son got his fish, 130 on cable. She mellowed out for minutes and boom.

For the King opener, I was hoping to at least replicate last year's success, where I hooked, but didn't land a King, with a single-hander on a Whidbey Island beach. This year, I caught myself.



Earlier in the day though, I had a great catch.

Any advice on catching Kings from the beach appreciated. For one, I think the flies I'm pitching (#2 b&w dolly llamas) are too heavy for my Sage Maverick 8wt, especially in any wind.
