Probably important to note, the cancer is extremely unlikely to be "transmissible" to humans, the article did not seem to provide this information. The cancer is transmissible to other bivalves through the actual transmission of the neoplastic cells in sea water and are very sensitive to changes in salinity. There is no evidence that these cells can survive or cause cancer in humans.

Doesn't mean I would rush out to dig up some of these clams in affected areas, just that the risk of transmission to humans appears to be extremely low.

I'm not seeing much in the Shellfish section of the Fish Washington App's updates to flesh this out.
