Not sure I agree. Drug addiction, in most cases, requires the individual to admit to being addicted before him or her can begin to recover. People with mental health problems may never know or understand that they suffer from mental health problems. Some suffer from both mental health issues and addiction. Some like those addicted to drugs like meth suffer so much physical and mental damage they might require some form of permanent help. One of the scariest individuals I ever dealt with was a relapsed meth addict. His perception of reality was so bizarre that if I hadn’t witnessed it myself I wouldn’t be able to believe what he was going through.
This country needs a government and public service media blitz encouraging - removing the stigma for seeking mental health (and addiction) treatment, and to get support for funding facilities, research, and technology that are at the same level and sophistication as the finest cancer centers and staffed by highly trained, motivated, compassionate, and compensated physicians, nurses, and administration.Herein lies the rub…
Forced institutionalization or inhumane life on the streets?
who's gonna watch that when they could watch kermit the frog do play by play for miniature golf? This country needs a government and public service media blitz encouraging - removing the stigma for seeking mental health (and addiction) treatment, and to get support for funding facilities, research, and technology that are at the same level and sophistication as the finest cancer centers and staffed by highly trained, motivated, compassionate, and compensated physicians, nurses, and administration.
It would be curious to know, just how much money is thrown at the problem already? This country needs a government and public service media blitz encouraging - removing the stigma for seeking mental health (and addiction) treatment, and to get support for funding facilities, research, and technology that are at the same level and sophistication as the finest cancer centers and staffed by highly trained, motivated, compassionate, and compensated physicians, nurses, and administration.
Disco was invented by the CIA to sell more cocaine. What are the bachelorette whores selling? Worked in retail my life I can say without a doubt 75% of people can barely function day to day and fall into the NPC category, ready for you to lead and mold them without a care or independent thought about anything.i don't watch live tv, haven't for a long time. even when i watch sporting events, i typically stream after the game so i can skip ads. tonight i watched the cup final, last two periods, live. god. because i was watching over espn+, all of the ads for were for abc shows. my god, if this is what america is watching - on purpose - for entertainment.....we're fukked. thieves? whoopdidoo. i have a window of comprehension into the human desperation that could drive someone to steal or otherwise act against their own value system - addiction, poverty, stress....but relating to a mind that could be entertained by "the bacheloretteS" (that's right, plural), or a reality show based on the muppets doing play by play of put put golf? that's entirely opaque to me. we've got a much deeper and more insidious problem than crime. no wonder we are so willing to sign up for letting all the shit roll downhill while all the gold rolls up, and our complicit politicians feign outrage and blame the other pole.

If anyone can't see that the recent change in the laws that happened is directly linked to what is happening right now, you are fucking blind. It's obvious that prison and all the other shit was working. Maybe not 100% but much better than the current garbage. Put the shitty people back in prison and make prison tough again. There are different "levels" of prison, if you don't want to be at the one where you get knifed or have to constantly fight, don't be a pile of shit. If you don't want to end up on the streets as a piece of shit thief don't stick that needle in your arm or stick that glass pipe in your mouth. Or maybe just stop trying to be so cool. Use the energy you use to be cool into finding a job. It's like there is a contest going on on who can care the least and be the largest sack of shit. You work to move ahead in life and earn the things you want. "Crazy isn't it" Be tough on crime, be tough on politicians and people that break the laws that are supposed to be part of making things better. Be tough on the police that aren't acting right and doing crime themselves. Needs to get back to normal core values with a core group of people that are doing stuff for the people and the environment. Laws need to be in place! Stealing can't be legal no matter what the circumstances; same with narcotics. If you really want to help and you disagree with anything above then go pick up those shitty people and bring them home with you. Take care of them and get em on their feet again. Keep coddling, thats really working. If you put your hand on fire it hurts, if you keep doing it then you are stupid, usually people stop if it hurts, same thing with punishment, if it hurts then they will stop. If they don't want to stop then you can live your life in prison with the rest of the people that didn't want to stop. Pretty simple concept. I would much rather live pre 2020. The last 2 years has been an absolute joke. People showing their true colors because shit got easier to be shitty
I have no problems with making prison less nice.I believe in much of what you said and would like to add that we (as a society) have a "captive audience" while the offenders are incarcerated. This is the perfect time to address the root causes by offering suitable treatment options (mental health, addiction, etc.). Give incentives like earlier release if they go through the treatment programs. Otherwise, they just sit and do their time. Seems like a wasted opportunity. Sure, it costs money, but so does letting things continue the way they are.
If we hold the criminals accountable, and sentence them when guilty, more of them get that opportunity.
Sure, this is America and we may not be able to make these programs compulsory as they may infinge upon their freedoms. Fine, then sit and do your time in the not so nice prisons described above.
If you don't address the root causes, you'll never fix the problems.
Not accurate at all. Those who believe in corporal punishment either never had kids, or have kids who likely want nothing to do with them. Have yet to meet the man that likes hitting that doesn't like to hit the bottle as well.
I'm not going to single anyone out. However, some folks here should watch some videos, from the channel below, about homeless people and drug addicts. Nearly all of them suffered abuse as children. Anyone with any degree of compassion should find their stories heart breaking. They are broken people and their behavior shouldn't surprise anyone, when you hear what they have been through. It's arrogant for anyone to think that they would be any different, if they were subjected to the same conditions.
Crime can't be tolerated, regardless of the cause. However, some people on this forum really need a dose of humility and look deeper than their own inconvenience. Sitting on high horses never solves anything.
