Pretty cool time capsule

The would be worth having just to display on a wall.

Those were commonplace in the early 1960s when Japan had been told that Americans love to buy cheap shit. They sold for $3 or $3.50 at the time. Pretty crummy rods, but as kids we thought they were perfectly fine for worm fishing in the creek.

With the reel seat located above the grip, I can't imagine it casts all that well. Looks more like a spinning rod.

Cool time capsule though.

I have a bunch of them. 2 were brought back from Japan during the Korean War as gifts from my uncle. The rest have just showed up on my doorstep over the years, not sure where they came from. They do make nice wall hangers and I enjoy working on them bringing them back to some level of acceptable appearance. It pays to not be a good caster when I cast one of them. I just blame myself that they don't cast that well.

A former neighbor gave me one of these rods (reversible grip: spin to fly). As a spinning rod, I think I could have used it for halibut it was so stiff. Configured as a fly rod, I tried to test cast it with a couple different fly lines and ended up leaving it in its bag for several years. Then I got a wild hair and on WFF posted a thread (https://www.washingtonflyfishing.co...d-advice.150593/?post_id=1513126#post-1513126) and got a lot of help from bamboo gurus and ended up with a shorty two piece (two tips) 5 weight rod that actually fishes quite nicely.
