Potential Upgrade Fish Finder for Outcast Scout Pontoon

I currently have a Fishin Buddy Max on my scout but for a variety of reasons I am thinking about upgrading to a different system. Contemplating going with a Humminbird Helix 5 and a mount/battery system from fishfindermounts.com.

I'd consider going up to a 7" screen but since I bought my boat I don't use the pontoon that much so hesitant to just spend the extra coin to go to the 7" screen. Shoot I hardly use the pontoon enough to warrant upgrading at all but hey you only live once....lol.

So anybody have any experience with the Helix 5 or got some other similar recommendations?

Steve

I have the old Hummingbird Fishn Buddy 140c and used it for years. I custom built a holder for it instead of the huge "C" clamp that came with it. Been perfect on my pontoon. Not sure how the Max compares. The 140c shoots down and has a side finder option in a split screen, I always have on. The screen may be small, but I love how it's all contained in one unit. No cables, batteries laying around. Not sure anything new could work much better? If you only live once, then DO IT!

That said, a finder like the striker 4 is a definite upgrade over a fishin buddy.
Yes it is an upgrade(and no). I do appreciate the upgraded technology in the Striker 4 compared to the Humminbird 120 and 140C that I "traded in"; it's the sidescan function of the two Humminbird units that I miss.

I have sidescan on my striker. I just reach into the water, twist the transducer 90 degrees on my trolling motor, and scan it around.

No I don’t actually do that, but it does happen by accident. I miss that feature too

I also upgraded from a Fishin Buddy 120 to the Garmin Striker 4 on my Fish Cat Scout. Same comments as above re: appreciating the updated technology - and occasionally missing the side scan feature!

I used a Strap-on Mount from fishfindermounts.com for the screen and transducer. They make nice stuff. I keep my battery pack separate in the rear gear bag. I'm left-handed so keep the screen and battery on the right side.

Thanks for the replies all. I think I am headed to either a Humminbird Helix 5 or Garmin Striker Vivid 5. Mounting with an all enclosed fishfindermount.
I use the Garmin Striker CV 5 older version of Vivid and when setup properly I can actually see my swivel and two chironomid flies on the screen. The 5” is great for failing older eyes and split screen. Would be interested in what you get.
