Playing live music 2024

Oktoberfest! Dru Bru had us back yesterday. A perfect September evening for outdoor music. Our tunes went over well, tips were good, Gemini Fish Company was on site (killer cod tacos), and the festbier was delicious. I know, Lederhosen or it didn’t happen….well it happened. That’s not me, btw

This evening is the first of 12 total "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" rehearsals for a local community theater. The show will open Oct 11th for 7 performances over 3 weeks.
I've spent several hours so far working up the book, and will spend many - many more. The book has clean electric archtop, electric with heavy distortion, & acoustic guitars parts. I'll cover them using my electric archtop that has an acoustic pickup under the soundboard in stereo with the HBs. Plus there are tenor banjo parts in 3 numbers.
Today I worked on my "pit" sound rig. I think by using the guitar input and the aux input with a ABY switcher for the acoustic pickups into my modeler will let me have total volume, and timbre control, with a mono low Z feed out to the house.

Where is the venue? I did the sound design and engineering for a community theater group.
Manestage Theatre Company, that refurbished the old Liberty Theatre in downtown Puyallup.
Should be a fun production.
I have been a real sucker for movie and stage theater musicals since I was a kid so I have liked playing in small ensembles, big bands, and full orchestras. I've played quite a number of stage musical productions in churches and a local theatre venue over the last 30 years (?)
. And I have really loved "being part of the production" in stage musical shows like 42nd St, Singin' In The Rain... 
*I'd love to do White Christmas 
and Manestage is performing it this year but *there is no guitar book 
. Plus the Music Director told me last year that* they use canned music for the Christmas season production because musician availability is at a premium for all of the Holiday shows. Also the recording rights are awful expensive for a community theatre that owns or leases its building and this theatre's pit is enclosed underneath the stage so while I can hear the all the music, singing, dancing, and audience response, I may never get to actually see a Manestage production I perform in

The community theater gig I'm in had a run of four shows over the past weekend. Rather than the full band it was just keys and myself backing a vocalist. I had my amp stashed behind the scenery flat; that worked great and saved some floor space for the audience. I love my little Rob Allen Mouse bass!
Probably closed out my 2024 gigs yesterday at PUNCH gallery in Thorp. I say probably because we were approached about playing in Cle Elum…so maybe one more.
There was a good turnout for our afternoon show 2-4pm. It’s a great sounding room, especially when it fills up. Sound check was a little boomy but no problem later. love being finished in time to make dinner for the family.
