Pizza oven thread

yup I'm using the propane torch method already. Speeds up the process.

But yeah, I can already tell neighbor drama will be in my future. Had comments about my smoker previously, and this is way smokier when I start the fire. By many magnitudes.

Have you used a moisture meter on the wood you bought?
EVERYTIME (re: twice) I bought wood on CL or Marketplace, the wood was over 20%, and smoked a lot.

I'll need to go find/dig up my moisture meter

update: seems 14-16% on average

More adventures in poor man’s pizza ovening.

I sold my grill and replaced it with a griddle that can convert into a 16 inch pizza oven. See link below.

I now have two pizza ovens. One isn’t enough for entertaining. I’ve only used the griddle so far, which was awesome. Will report back with pizza.

Where did you get the storage system for your equipment? Looks nice and clean.

I got them from IKEA. Search for “Grillskar”.

Note that I heavily modified mine. My deck has a ~3 inch drop, from wall to railing. I cut the legs off and made my own frame underneath, out of cedar. Cutting the legs off also puts the griddle at a more comfortable height. I cut a hole in the backsplash thing, for the gas line to go through. I also cut a few extra holes in the back panel, and inserted grommets, for electrical wires to go through. IKEA now has another modular outdoor kitchen system, which might be worth looking at.

Nice choice on the Ninja. Using our Woodfire more amd more, adding the griddle top, I don't think there is a more versatile , small, electric system out there.
And thanks for sharing the Grillskar info. Could use that here, too.

Welp I did it. My wife and I made amoeba-shaped pizzas in the oven tonight 🥳

Have a lot of practice and dialing in to do, but we made a great tasting dinner. Excited for our first pizza party 🎉

Goes to show that even half ass craftsmanship can get the job done. Thanks again to @mcswny for keeping me in line during the whole project 😂

While I've hesitated to post some of my progress pics because they're not the most flattering 😂, I'll share the chimney solution I'm putting up. It's just kind of tacked together right now while I await the parts to finish properly securing it, but I think it'll solve my smoke issues. Plus, I think I'm technically supposed to have the flue taller than any structure nearby, so I got that checkmark done too.

It'll be fully secure and sealed off by Friday when I fire the oven up again. Will probably burn some cardboard today to see how the smoke behaves.

Those figs in the foreground are pretty flattering.

Cardboard test burn successful. Smoke goes out the top as intended. Yay

So I'll proceed with securing it then hopefully putting some finishing touches on the whole thing soon. Definitely need that final layer of stucco like a month ago.
