I’m headed to Phoenix for the holiday break. I might be able to get a day away from the family and am thinking about bringing a rod. I’ve never fished in that area, but I know there are some options within a couple hours of the city. I've been through the Sedona area and was thinking about going back. If anyone has any recommendations, I would love to hear them. Any input would be appreciated.

I lived in Tucson for 15 years, and I'd suggest leaving your rod at home. It's such a unique environment, so instead of fishing, embrace the desert. I'd go hiking in the Superstitions, or even up near Sedona. Things like that. Of course, if fishing is your break from your obnoxious brother in law, go for it. I've also heard good things about carp in the canals. You might also want to chase Gila trout up on the Rim near Payson or Show Low. Have fun.

Yes hiking in the superstitions is awesome. Never have I seen so many coyotes at the dusk hour leaping and bounding in front, to the left, to the right of me as we worked our way back to the car. Chasing those rabbits… think they were working as a pack and flushing them out.
Some of those coyotes were very healthy looking and decent size.
Beautiful area, I was there quite some time ago. Not sure how popular it has become since then. But when we hiked it back in the mid-late 90’s we hardly ran in to anyone, it was very quiet. Maybe 5-6 other hikers. Places tend to change a couple decades later and another million plus people in the area. No rattlesnakes which was nice. 👍
