Pebble - the witch is dead.

It's been a long time coming. I got my start in the conservation world in 2007 on this subject, traveling from AK all over the West and chatting with the sporting public about what we collectively and potentially stand to lose if this bad idea ever came to fruition...

Gonna have an extra beer or two this evening.

Great news and thanks for your efforts.

I mean, I feel like I've heard announcements of its death before. I hope it sticks this time.
I hear you, but there is a difference. The last two "pebble is dead!" moments were recommendations for rulemaking...this is the actual rulemaking.
I'm sure there will be a legal challenge, and I'm sure there will be appeals...but the EPA doesn't issue a preemptive 404(c) denial lightly. If memory serves (its been a decade since I've been intimately involved in the Save Bristol Bay campaign), this will be the 13th...14th? time such a rule has been promulgated in 52 years.

Great news! I fished that area with my dad in late August for amazing coho, rainbow, grayling and char with Nanci Morris! Hopefully this will be the last of it.

Great news!

Even in our local communities, developers never sleep. And there is countless more money to be made there. Stay vigilant.

As David Brower, the founder of Earth Island Journal, famously said, speaking about how environmental defense is a constant struggle: “All of our victories are temporary, and all of our defeats are permanent.

There will no doubt be legal challenges, but it is important to remember this isn't an action against a company, it is a  removal of the ability to use waters (in this case, the watersheds of the N and S fork Koktuli) as dredge fill / tailings disposal.
