NFR Passing Cars Correctly with Space

Non-fishing related
As a driving enthusiast, I came to the realization many years ago that I will never be able to change the way others drive. Now rather than it bothering me or getting angry, I just find it interesting. Sometimes REALLY interesting, and I actually try to learn from everything I see.

Robert, a hand on the gear shift lever can't hold a cellphone. Plus you actually have to think about what gear you are in. At one time all drivers could do this....Today's drivers are clueless about manual transmissions and regard them a some kind of Rubik's Cube device that is incomprehensible. Like all devices that automate user involvement and make our lives 'easier' they have not only made our lives easier but have dumbed us down significantly. Another arrow in the quiver of ignorance.

Sure you have seen the videos of idiots who carjacked a vehicle and realized neither one could drive a manual transmission…….

What gets me is when I'm 3 or 4 cars behind the slow car and none of the cars ahead of me will pass the slow car. Relatedly, if you are leading a parade of cars on a two lane road, please pull over and let them pass!

When I am poking around on roads scoping out the river, I often pull over and wave people past.

I'm back and forth between Maple Valley and Beaver a few times a month and this^^ is so frustrating. I'm also a max 5mph over the posted limit sort and stick to the right lane and or use pullouts. However, that's the exception. Summer is goddawful so I do the drive in the very early AM. Apologies for the generalization but the front car always seems to be a Prius or an RV.

Tourists cruising around Lake Crescent at 5 miles under the limit, ignoring the 20 pullouts with a line of cars and logging trucks behind you...

@Divad
If cut off, head directly to the beach.
Catching a big coho followed up by eating a Snickers Bar will make things well immediately. 😉

^^^^^^this!

And waiting for the person IN THE LEAD at the traffic light to finish a text 10 seconds after the light has turned GREEN!
Thread drift @Divad: We spent a month in Redondo Beach this summer: you don't get ten seconds, you don't get one second of delay or multiple cars start honking. And yellow lights don't mean jack.

I’m a rather slow driver, speed limit or a little over, don’t need to go Mach 10 and danger others so I enjoy the right lane.

But when people pass and then almost cut me off it’s extremely disrespectful. Don’t do that. Why? Well because where are the two places road debris congregates, the middle and the edges.

I was taught this common sense lesson as to not shoot rocks at cars behind me when passing. How the f*** do so many people not get that?

Rant over.

If you're in the right lane there's no reason to do this. If you are in the left lane Molotov cocktails should be thrown in winter at you and in summer a milkshake.

I see more dangerous driving lately with phones and generally a lack of respect for mortality and others as of late. I can honestly say the most dangerous driver on the road is the left lane camper. They frustrate people into taking undue and unsafe risks to get around them.

I ride a bike much of the time all seasons. I'm always acutely aware of who's around me and at what proximity. A left lane driver four cars up causes a pinch for me and impacts my safety. I do not let that happen. I've been known to use the shoulder or turn lane or other avenue as a passing lane to get out of the crowd. Again this is a risk I'm willfully taking but one that I would rather not and should not have to entertain. I often then get flack from the left lane camper up the road as they speed wildly to catch up which tells me that they are at least paying that much attention but too self centered and stupid to act sooner. They don't see this as problem behaviour. Either way I trust myself over a group of mixed idiots driving too close to one another frustrated and likely on their phone part time.

If Washington state patrol enforced left lane camping as much as nickel and dime speeding infractions for max revenue and minimal safety gains our highways would be cleaner, more efficient, and safer for all. Left lane campers should be sent to a concentration camp for reprogramming. At a lack of that face real fines. I figure a left lane camper should pay double the average speeding ticket.

Living on hw 2 there is very few areas to pass, and less evey year. I have and will pass multiple cars because no one else will!
What really pisses me off os when someone driving slow for the past 20 miles speeds up once a passing lane opens up. Another one is when they speed up when you are trying pass them.

People fucking suck!

Doesn’t a yellow light mean accelerate?
I once had to take the driver's test because my left arm was in a cast that wasn't due to be removed until several weeks after my license expired. They wanted to make sure I could drive with the cast. "Well...I drove down here!" The tester gal and I went round and round about several things. I was taking the test in my work van and as soon as we left the lot with my cast resting at the open window she told me I would fail if I didn't put both hands on the wheel. "Okay" CLUNK!

We came up to a flashing yellow light so I slowed down a bit as we neared it. She told me it was just a caution and that I didn't need to slow down. "That's me being cautious."

My van had a metal wall between the front and back. When I changed lanes I used my mirror and didn't turn my head. After years of driving vans I knew turning my head would only allow me to see the wall. She told me that I should glance over my shoulder when changing lanes. "Look over your shoulder. What do you see? You want me to take my eyes off the road to look at that?"

Several other things but I'm tired of typing.

I passed, she failed...

I've wondered about this and why some tailgate so close on a four or six lane, that you can't see their hood and I've come to my own idea on why they do it.

I think it's because, it's there behind the wheel where they can act out a sense of control over their own destiny and that of others, which doesn't exist elsewhere in their daily lives.
They can harass, intimidate, endanger or be polite as the mood strikes with what they believe is impunity.
At least that's what I tell myself as I chant " Serenity Now".

I will not pass a vehicle if it is a 2 lane road and logging trucks are coming from the other direction. Period...

Saw a great documentary a ways back where they followed a guy that had serious road rage when behind the wheel but then while walking through a busy mall with his girlfriend he was the nicest guy, moving out of others way, etc. I would assume this is true of most, not all, road ragers. Without question there are some on meth on their way to get more and you just gotta get the hell out of the way.

I was almost killed but a state trooper doing about 100 while passing a blind idiot today.

When the cars in front of you are pulling over, and the cars on the other side are pulling over, its not to clear the way for your entitled ass!

Atleast twice a month people don't pull over for emergency vehicles on hw 2.

Pull the fuck over people!
