Other Hobbies?

So besides our obvious “hobby” of fishing (I’d argue it’s more than a hobby), does anyone else have other hobbies? Guns, Classic Cars, Woodworking, Forging? You know, other bank account depleting stuff!

For me, one of my biggest hobbies is collecting knives. Mainly Chris Reeve Knives out of Boise, ID. I have a “few” to say the least but this is one that blends two hobbies. Chris Reeve Large Regular Pheasant Tail.

I'll list em out:

1. Crossfit/fitness/running - yes, I know this makes me look/sound like a douchebag and knocks me down a few pegs in the eyes of many. But it is the only way I've found to keep motivated and consistently in shape. Been at it 12yrs and am as in to it as ever. I also add in a lot of extracurricular running and will run at least one 5k per week, and will transition to doing two 5ks in one day at least once a week until Hood to Coast (a 200mi relay) later this summer.

2. Cooking - Really in to getting fancy in the kitchen and learning how to make cuisines from other cultures. I mostly cook Indian, various Asian stuff, East African, and Mediterranean. The traditional American palate doesn't do it for me.

3. Gaming - Yes, I'm a nerd. Both videogames and boardgames. Like Crossfit, this also has a stigma, but I own it. The time and energy most put in to watching TV and movies, I put in to gaming. I can't be outside all the time, especially in the winter. So this is how I like to spend my indoor time.

4. Just misc projects... I spent 100+ hours last year taking an unwanted inboard saltwater boat and rebuilding the transom, converting to an outboard mount, and making it in to a saltwater fishing machine I can use for tuna and lingcod. Really in to doing projects along those lines.

5. Photography - pretty self explanatory. I often combine this with my other hobbies: https://evand066.myportfolio.com/photos

That sums up the jist of my "hobbies."

Nothing wrong with staying in shape!!!

Damn, I feel lame. I like arts a crafts. The kind where at the end, there's a fly I can use.

I guess a pretty big one would be herping which I'm fortunate to be able to combine with fly fishing when I fish the dry side of the state. It's been quite some time since I've gone on a herping only trip though, I don't like hanging out with that crowd, they're a bit too nerdy know-it-all types for my taste...:LOL:

I will add that in addition to knives, I also hit the gym 4 or 5 times a week. Used to do a lot of power lifting but knee injuries have really slowed me down in terms of heavier loads.

I used to be deep into photography and had a lot tied up in equipment. As I've gotten older, I just found I didn't like carrying around a 30lb backpack full of camera gear. Sold everything and switched to a Fuji system with just a few lenses. Nice, small and light system that I can take anywhere and still get great results.

Besides fly fishing, fly tying, and some gear fishing, too many for my spare time and resources. Pretty much all, including fishing, on the back-burner for now.

Painting/drawing
Wood working, wooden boat building
Landscaping/gardening
Astronomy and science in general (really just interests since I don't own a telescope)

Long ago I was into hot-rodding cars.

Fly fishing / fly tying
Biking
Hunting / reloading
Hiking
Camping
And just getting back into skiing.

Anything to get me outdoors!

I'm into nothing. Jogging is out as I have 2 bad knees, My back is also fucked up. I used to tie flies but I'm shaking worse than I used to so that is out. Right now with this boot on I feel like I have a club foot. Not into camping and fishing is just a side line. I made it out only 3 times last year and I'm living in the last parts of a late winter. It snowed just the other day. But Spring time in Montana is fine. I sure hope when that day shows up that I don't miss it.

Metal Detecting…..mainly old guy stuff but started doing in back in the 70’s with my pops. Fun as hell digging stuff up. You never know what you’ll find.
SF

I Coach HS Football…coaching is so much more than a hobby to me but I don’t do it for the money and I LOVE doing it so it has a hobby quality to it. I don‘t teach, just coach. I have a day job but those dudes are the hi-light of every day I get to spend with them.

I also bow hunt whitetail and pick up heavy things everyday.

I also enjoy legos, hotwheels and craft projects. I know parenting is a full time job, but I just love being at this point, playing with the grandkids.
