So... yes,
@FishingGirl and I did a one day add-on for Golden Dorado in BA. I can say that it definitely had the
potential to be a great experience, but ours was a bit disappointing.
TLDR: If you go, make sure you communicate thoroughly with the guide service and make your expectations
very clear!
The fishing was fairly close to BA, and fish were there (this was Feb) and pretty cool
IF you want details of our experience:
We are not high maintenance clients by any means, and we are decently skilled anglers, so this is not sour grapes, it's just what happened...
We're pretty sure the well-known guide service we booked in advance forgot we were on the books. We had to call the day before to ask when/where to meet, and then when we got to the dock it became apparent that he had just scrounged up a couple guys to fill in. One was a 14 yo kid present partly as a translator, and the other drove the boat but spoke little English. The kid knew more about fishing, but neither knew anything at all about
fly fishing. As in, when the fly reel on the rod he brought literally fell apart, they clearly had no idea how to even mount the replacement reel onto the rod. They had one type of fly. When I asked why black, when the baitfish we were seeing were mostly silver or bright colored (as were their plugs for the gear rods), the answer was that black flies were all they could get.

The driver pretty much just followed the real guide's boat around, but stayed well out of his water (we could see that he was setting up in specific spots, and that
his clients
were catching dorado on flies.) We gave up after a while and fished the gear rods that they had brought, and caught some fish, but mostly trolling. They were fun fish, for sure - it probably would have been a blast with an actual fly guide!
