Oregon Golden Trout

I know its a shot in the dark but has anyone heard of Golden Trout residing in oregon. I was searching around and found that they might be found in the Eagle Cap wilderness but this is one area of the state ive not been to yet. I have been to many fly shops and they all say that they have heard stories of these fish in Oregon many years ago.

It’s nice part of the state. Spent three months north of Enterprise, Sled Springs. The Steens and Alvord Desert are worth a look.

You might try contacting local ODFW offices in region you’re interested in. I’ve found them to be quite helpful. Doubt if you’re going to get much response on a public forum. We have “secret” creeks with populations of goldens in California, not talked about in public.

I’ve actually heard grumblings of goldens much closer than the wallowas 🤐
I was thinking the opposite, the thing to do is drive another 8 hours east to pinedale, and do the wind river range.

Once I heard my grandpa say that he caught one in a high mountain lake at Mt. Hood in the 1950s. Not sure to believe him or not.
The general vicinity is where I’ve heard. It’s on my list to get to the lake, but it’s an off trail slog.

Back in the days when I hiked the Eagle caps all I very caught was brookies.
Camp fire cooked brookies with wild onions, mmmmmmm good
