Open Seat & Guide Sharing Forum?

Life of the Party
Now that my kids are getting older I'm getting (slightly) more time to fish, it seems like I'm also finally in a position where I could potentially meet up with other members of the board when/where I can to get out and fish.

Of course, it's hard to do that on a message board, particularly with people you haven't fished with before, without announcing when and where you intend to fish, and thus running afoul of the ethos of not sharing location info for fear of bringing forth the zombie-hordes of lurkers who will invade wherever it is you are going.

I've got a 13'6" Whaler that's good for scooting around the south Sound, and a 14' frame raft for local rivers. I'd be happy to bring another person along in the Whaler if I can sneak out to the South Sound, and bring 1-2 people out on my raft for floats anywhere between Bellingham and Portland.

I also consider myself a novice when it comes to steelheading, and would be interested in "guide splitting" if there's anyone else that felt like they'd be interested in lining up a guided swinging trip with a guide with an emphasis on tactics, strategy, etc and splitting the tab. Ditto for river-coho on the fly.

To the extent that keeping the great unwashed zombie-hordes at bay is keeping people from reaching out and making plans to fish at a particular place and time (maybe it isn't?), I was thinking that making a private subforum with restricted access (either via donations or a sufficiently high barrier to entry, like 100 posts) that made it possible for people to post their plans and invites might help make it possible for more of us to connect in person.

What say ye?

finally, match.com for fly fishing

Basically what it's always been. Met a ton of great guys and gals from WFF and here. Go for it

That would be cool, but perhaps "by invitation" where the administrators have a private calculus to decide entry like number of posts might be one metric or post quality or likes from community or time spent on the forum. Donations or forum support through cash might not be a good metric because there are good people who can't afford extra expenses and then there are the pretentious people with money you just don't want to be around.

That sounds like a lot of work. But it should be up to the folks offering / looking for seats who decide what a good fit is. I'm definitely not the one for that job.

Seems like a bad idea to have a "public' private forum. Hard not to be divisive in some way - people can see they are excluded.
Just have a public forum, and posters can be a little vague on details. Specifics can be via DM. Works for ifish.

Besides, isn't there already a private forum for this purpose that got migrated over from WFF? IIRC, that was one of the things Swimmy got bent about.

How about if you have an open seat, just post it.
If ya want to split a guide trip, just post it.
If ya want to fish the x with poster y on here, dm them.
Solution in search of a problem...

YMMV

Next will be reviews on folks you fished with, like yelp....

'Cletus couldn't cast all that well, but brought some good grub, although the beer choice was questionable at best. Rowing skills were moderate, and he swore too much after losing a big fish. Flies were store bought, not artisan hand tied with organic emu. Old waders with egg goo on them, smelled bad.
Would not fish with him again'
2 stars

😁

I think a place to try and sync up would be great. I'd certainly like to try and hop on more guided trips to both get some rivers in and meet up with folks.
