Ok - streamer fishing using a mono rig ?

(again haven’t tried it yet) The mono rig steamer game as it was explained to me is that you have a long section of thick mono (10-20+ lb depending upon preference fly size). The mono section can be 30’ or even more. Then the rigs differ by preference but usually there is a sighter, a tippet ring, and a shorter section of tippet ultimately to fly. You cast the mono and it turns over the fly - your fly line typically stays on reel.

I can see a longer rod really coming in handy both given the setup and given intent to guide the fly around while maintaining contact.

I just hope if I like it that it doesn’t end up some slippery slope to unholy euro-nymphing love. That could signal the end times approaching.

I might get that 10’ 4 weight Centric. Happy bday to me - would be my first rod in some time. I can see it being a dynamite kayak fishing option, plus some of the spots I fish in MT when I want to fish a dry on a loooooong leader/tippet.

That definitely won’t happen. I promise. 😶

I thought you had the rod already. If you haven’t purchased a rod yet, there’s better options. See below. The Troutbitten guys are big on “do everything” rods, not euro rods.

Definitely check out the content on Troutbitten. Dom also did a multi part podcast series on streamers that was great. I have been doing more and more streamer fishing on my Euro Rig the last couple years. The control you have with different retrieves is great (head flips, pauses, lane changes, etc). It allows you to fish water that you wouldn't be able to normally fish.
