Well, still no carp to the net for me in 2026. The good news is I did some exploring today and found a place I'll probably re-visit. Also a place I probably won't.
I ended up 0-2 today. One of those was probably foul hooked. Water visibility was not great. So if I found a carp tailing I couldn't see his head. I just had to throw it in there and slowly strip out. I couldn't even watch the tail most of the time. Flying blind.
However, I did find some...what I call "casual cruisers". You've been told don't waste your time on cruisers. For most cruisers I would agree. However, there's those cruisers that are not in a hurry. They don't have that urgent pace or weird look on their face like they're late to the party. They're simply headed somewhere, but not in any hurry and they're still hungry.
I messed up a couple that were prime for the taking. One was a line caught in the grass and another was just a poor cast. I finally got this big guy to stop and eat pretty late in the day. And then he did his best coho imitation doing a death spiral, got wrapped and came off. At least I got the take and short fight on video.
He was in that 16-18# range. Really wanted to net that one!
As I was packing up this guy gave me the bird. If I could've seen that good all day....
